ABUJA – Fire returned to the Red Chamber on Tuesday as embattled Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, launched a blistering attack on Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of dictatorship, oppression, and treating her like a household servant.
Speaking to journalists shortly after regaining access to her office at the National Assembly complex—six months after her controversial suspension—Natasha did not mince words.
“Senator Akpabio is not more of a senator than I am. He is not the governor of this place, yet he treated me as if I were his servant or domestic staff in his house,” she declared, her voice laced with defiance.
Natasha was suspended for six months following her sensational allegation that Akpabio sexually harassed her—an allegation the Senate President has strongly denied. The suspension triggered outrage across the country, with critics describing it as political persecution designed to silence her. Multiple court cases over the matter remain unresolved.
Reflecting on her ordeal, the fiery lawmaker painted a picture of what she endured during her forced absence: intimidation, blackmail, and even orchestrated blockades.
“From the unjust suspension to the recall, we survived road blockades, we survived blackmail from the crazy lady on Facebook—it’s amazing what we had to survive,” she recounted.
Despite the turbulence, Natasha expressed gratitude to her supporters, constituents, and husband for standing by her throughout what she called “a season of trials.”
“I give God Almighty the glory and my deepest appreciation to the good people of Kogi Central senatorial district, Nigerians at large, and to my husband. I pray all men support their wives like you have supported me,” she said warmly.
The outspoken senator, however, warned of what she described as a creeping authoritarian trend under Akpabio’s leadership.
“It’s very unfortunate that at this time, after so many years of democracy, we have a National Assembly being run by such dictatorship. It’s totally unacceptable,” she lamented.
Reaffirming her resilience, Natasha stressed that her suspension never stopped her from serving her people.
“No day did I hesitate in effectively carrying out my duties as a senator of Kogi Central to the best of my capacity,” she affirmed.
As the political storm rages on, one thing is clear: Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is back in the Senate—and she is not retreating quietly.
Akpabio could not be reached for comments at press time.
