Troops of the Nigerian Army have scored a major breakthrough in Plateau State, arresting 15 suspected armed militias in a daring operation around Jamrop village, Qua’an Pan Local Government Area.
The swift action, carried out on September 19, 2025, by the 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), followed credible intelligence reports of an attempted raid in which the militias had already set huts ablaze in the community.
According to the Task Force spokesperson, Major Samson Zhakom, the troops leveraged real-time technology and coordinated firepower to outmaneuver the criminal elements, recovering a cache of deadly weapons. The haul included 15 fabricated rifles, 105 cartridges, and other dangerous items.
“The suspects were intercepted while attempting to unleash further terror on innocent residents. They are now in custody, and investigations are ongoing to track down fleeing members of the militia group,” Major Zhakom confirmed.
Military authorities stressed that the operation underscores the Army’s resolve to restore law and order in Plateau and ensure that criminal networks in the state are dismantled. “Troops of the 3 Division/JTF OPEP are redoubling efforts, deploying improved operational strategies, and reinforcing security in vulnerable communities,” Zhakom added.
Security analysts view the arrests as a significant step toward curbing the cycle of violence that has plagued Plateau communities, especially in rural flashpoints. Residents of Jamrop have since heaved a sigh of relief, praising the military’s timely intervention which, they say, averted a looming bloodbath.
The suspects and recovered weapons remain in the custody of JTF OPEP, pending further investigations and prosecution.
