RIVERS ON EDGE: Analyst Warns Fubara Against Probing Former Sole Administrator, Says Another State of Emergency Could Be Declared

Tensions are simmering once again in Rivers State as public affairs analyst, Frank Ayala, has issued a stark warning to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, cautioning him against initiating a probe into the former sole administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, who recently handed over power.

Speaking during an interview with Voice Of The People TV, Ayala warned that any attempt by Fubara to dig into the affairs of his predecessor could trigger political upheaval and possibly pave the way for another state of emergency in Rivers.

“The political atmosphere in Rivers remains fragile,” Ayala stressed. “If Fubara tries to probe the sole administrator who just left office, he may not find peace in Government House. They may not remove him directly, but there could be developments that lead to another emergency declaration.”

Ayala recalled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s earlier declaration of emergency in the state on March 18, initially set for six months, noting that the federal government could extend or reimpose such measures if the situation worsens.

He warned that any aggressive political move by the governor could be interpreted as an act of provocation, which might destabilize the already volatile environment.

“Rivers is walking a tightrope,” Ayala added. “Only restraint and careful navigation can prevent a relapse into deeper crises.”

Political watchers believe Ayala’s remarks reflect the lingering power struggle in Rivers, a state that has become a theater of political brinkmanship and shifting alliances. His caution underscores the precarious balance of power and the high stakes facing Governor Fubara as he charts his course in office.
