DANGOTE GOES GREEN: AFRICA’S RICHEST MAN TO DEPLOY ELECTRIC TRUCKS IN FUEL DISTRIBUTION REVOLUTION

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, is charting a new course in Nigeria’s energy and logistics sector as his conglomerate, the Dangote Group, prepares to roll out electric trucks by early next year.

This bold step comes on the heels of the group’s recent deployment of 4,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks—a move already hailed as a game-changer in safer and more efficient fuel delivery across the country.

Speaking on the innovation drive, Dangote emphasized that safety and efficiency remain the heartbeat of the company’s transition from older vehicles to modern, eco-friendly fleets. “We need to protect our investment,” he stated, underscoring that the adoption of electric and gas-powered trucks will minimize accidents, reduce carbon emissions, and ensure smoother operations across Nigeria’s fuel distribution chain.

The initiative is a strategic extension of the company’s $20 billion Ibeju-Lekki Refinery—the world’s largest single-train facility—capable of refining up to 650,000 barrels of crude oil daily. Since commencing exports, the refinery has already shipped more than 1.1 billion liters of petrol to both domestic and international markets, reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a major player in the global energy landscape.

Industry analysts say Dangote’s latest push could mark a turning point for Nigeria’s logistics and energy sector, signaling a gradual shift toward greener, safer, and more cost-effective solutions in fuel distribution.

With electric trucks on the horizon, Dangote appears determined not just to fuel Nigeria, but to also drive it into a cleaner, more sustainable future.
