BREAKING: Boko Haram Overruns Nigerian Army Base in Borno – Scores of Soldiers Feared Dead, Military Hardware Looted

A fierce midnight assault by Boko Haram insurgents has left a trail of destruction in Borno State, with many Nigerian soldiers feared dead and military assets destroyed, SaharaReporters has gathered.

The terrorists stormed the base of the 152 Task Force Battalion in Banki, Bama Local Government Area, late Thursday night, overwhelming the troops in a deadly gun battle that lasted for hours.

According to sources, the insurgents dislodged the soldiers, razed armoured tanks, set ablaze several military vehicles, and carted away large quantities of ammunition. Survivors reportedly fled across the border into Cameroon in a desperate attempt to save their lives.

> “The terrorists held the base under siege for hours, looting weapons and equipment. As we speak, the number of casualties remains uncertain, but many soldiers are unaccounted for,” a military source disclosed.

Another insider confirmed that dozens of vehicles were destroyed during the onslaught, adding that troops stationed at the frontline base remain missing as the military scrambles to re-establish control.

The 152 Battalion, a key operational unit under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), plays a critical role in Nigeria’s counter-insurgency war in the North East. Its fall marks a major blow in the ongoing battle against the decade-old insurgency.

A War of Attrition

Nigeria has been battling Boko Haram and its offshoots for nearly two decades, with the conflict claiming more than 100,000 lives and displacing millions across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states.

Despite repeated assurances from the military and government officials that the insurgents have been “technically defeated,” Boko Haram continues to launch deadly offensives, exposing cracks in Nigeria’s counter-insurgency efforts.

Frontline soldiers have long complained of poor weaponry, inadequate welfare, and being outgunned by insurgents, fueling questions about accountability within the military hierarchy.

As of press time, the Nigerian Army has yet to release an official statement on the attack, while families of deployed troops anxiously await news of their loved ones.
