Buhari’s Loyalists Abandon APC, Declare for Atiku in ADC Alliance Ahead of 2027 BattleBy Our Correspondent

In a dramatic political twist that could reshape Nigeria’s 2027 elections, loyalists of former President Muhammadu Buhari have dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged allegiance to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, throwing their weight behind his emerging coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The declaration was made during a high-level meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, where state chairmen of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC)—the original platform that propelled Buhari to national prominence—gathered at Atiku’s residence to chart a new political course.

The CPC bloc, long regarded as Buhari’s most trusted base, accused the current APC administration of betraying the ideals that swept the party to power in 2015.

One of the CPC leaders, in a fiery address, said politics must not be hidden but boldly visible.

> “We are the true followers of Buhari, and we are here today, Sir. When this coalition started, we knew the party we wanted to align with. The CPC bloc is intact, and we will not allow Buhari’s legacy to be lost. Today, we are ready to merge into the new platform that God has chosen for us, with you as our leader—the ADC.”

Another leader went further, criticizing the faces currently in power as disconnected from the original CPC values.

> “You don’t need to be told when you see people like Malami and El-Rufai—they are CPC. Compare that with the faces you see in power today, and you will know the difference.”

Atiku, visibly delighted by the move, hailed the development as a game-changer in the quest to unseat the APC in 2027.

> “I am particularly delighted to receive you today. This meeting represents the continuation of your journey and struggles. With your support, I believe we can translate this journey into success. Together, we will form a government that reflects inclusivity, service, and unity across Nigeria.”

He also urged them to mobilize massively for the ongoing voter registration exercise, stressing that the strength of the coalition will be determined by the readiness of the people to exercise their franchise.

Political analysts believe this defection signals a significant crack within the APC’s northern base, once solidly anchored by Buhari’s loyalists. If sustained, Atiku’s alliance with the CPC bloc under the ADC could mark the beginning of a formidable opposition coalition ahead of 2027.
