Daily Post news has taken to its online handle and announced that, the Department of State Services (DSS) has strongly refuted claims of deteriorating health conditions made by detained Biafra agitator, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, describing them as unfounded and a ploy to secure his transfer from its custody to the National Hospital in Abuja.
Kanu, who is standing trial on charges bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony, recently filed a fresh application seeking medical attention outside the DSS facility, insisting that his health has worsened under their watch.
However, the secret police maintained that its medical team has been providing adequate care for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, adding that his claims were exaggerated and intended to sway public sympathy and the court’s discretion.
Security analysts argue that the DSS’s pushback signals the government’s resolve not to yield to what it perceives as tactical maneuvers by high-profile detainees, especially those with separatist ties.
Meanwhile, Kanu’s legal team has vowed to pursue the matter vigorously, insisting that his fundamental rights and wellbeing are at stake. The development has once again ignited a storm of debate across the country, particularly among supporters of Biafra, who accuse the Nigerian government of deliberately endangering his life.
The Abuja court handling the case is expected to rule on the application in the coming days, a decision that could either deepen tensions or provide a new direction in the long-running trial.
