Katsina State was thrown into mourning on Friday evening the 12th September 2025, as suspected armed bandits staged a deadly ambush on operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), killing one officer and leaving four others critically injured.

The tragic incident unfolded around 5 p.m. at Dafa village along the Yantumaki–Danmusa road, a notorious axis that has witnessed repeated attacks by terror gangs.

According to security sources, the victims—who were part of Operation Sharan Daji, a joint security task force combating banditry in the North-West—were on transit when the bandits laid siege, opening heavy fire on their patrol vehicle.

The attack claimed the life of Chief Corps Assistant (CCA) Adamu Abdullah, 37, a gallant officer remembered by colleagues for his dedication to service. Four others narrowly escaped death but sustained serious gunshot wounds. They include:

Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Abdullah Usman, 40

Assistant Superintendent of Corps (ASC) Dikko Sabiu, 42

Assistant Superintendent of Corps (ASC) Haruna Bello, 35

Chief Corps Assistant (CCA) Kabir Dalhatu, 29

Swift reinforcement teams were immediately deployed from Danmusa, while the injured were rushed to General Hospital, Dutsinma, where they are currently receiving treatment. Their bullet-ridden Hilux patrol vehicle was also recovered from the scene.

The brazen assault once again highlights the resilience of bandit networks across the North-West despite ongoing security operations, raising fresh concerns about the safety of security operatives and civilians plying rural routes.

Security analysts warn that the attack is a chilling reminder of the high price being paid by frontline operatives battling banditry in Nigeria’s most volatile zones.
