Calls for Stronger Home-School Partnership as New Academic Session Begins

As schools in Adamawa State reopen for the first term of the academic calendar, parents have been charged to play a more active role in strengthening the standard of education across the state.

The appeal came from the Principal of Bakarai Hamidu Junior Secondary School, Girei, Mr. Aliyu Umar, who spoke with our correspondent during a monitoring visit to schools in the area.

According to him, while the turnout of students on the first day of resumption was impressive, sustaining quality education requires stronger parental involvement beyond merely enrolling children in school.

> “Parents have indeed been supportive, but there is still a greater need for them to engage more actively in the academic life of their children,” Mr. Umar said. “Quality education is not achieved by government efforts alone. Parents must complement the provision of infrastructure and teaching personnel with close monitoring, encouragement, and home support.”
The principal commended the Adamawa State Post Primary Schools Management Board and Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration for equipping schools with the necessary tools and creating a more conducive learning environment. He noted that these investments would yield better results if matched with strong home-school partnerships.

Mr. Umar further stressed that the collaboration of government, teachers, and parents is crucial for producing disciplined, educated, and responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to the development of the state and the nation at large.
