TINUBU TO CATHOLIC BISHOPS: “SPEAK THE TRUTH WITHOUT FEAR”

President Urges Justice, Peace, and Tolerance as 2nd Plenary Opens in Akwa Ibom

The 2nd Plenary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) opened on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, drawing leaders of the Catholic Church, government officials, and key stakeholders from across the nation.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his goodwill message delivered at the gathering, charged the Christian body to remain a moral compass for the nation by speaking the truth boldly, upholding justice, and promoting fairness without fear or favour.

The President emphasized that at a time when Nigeria is facing complex political, economic, and security challenges, the voice of the Church is critical in guiding both leaders and citizens toward unity and progress.

Tinubu further appealed for peace, tolerance, and mutual respect among Nigerians, regardless of political leaning, religious creed, or ethnic background. He noted that only through harmony and understanding can the country achieve sustainable development and stability.

The Catholic Bishops, expected to deliberate on national issues and the state of the Church during the plenary, are also billed to issue a communique at the end of their sessions.

The Akwa Ibom plenary comes at a defining moment in Nigeria’s history, with many citizens looking to faith-based institutions for direction, moral leadership, and a renewed push for justice and equity in governance.
