BREAKING: Rivers State Kicks Off Transition From Emergency Rule To Full Democratic Governance

In a historic turn of events, the Rivers State Government has officially begun the long-awaited transition from emergency rule to democratic governance, marking a new dawn for the oil-rich state.

As part of the transition activities, the government has announced an interdenominational thanksgiving service scheduled for Sunday, September 14, at the Ecumenical Centre, Abonima Wharf Road, Port Harcourt, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Guests are expected to be seated by 9:30 a.m.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, all critical stakeholders have been invited to participate in the symbolic service that underscores a shift to civilian authority.

Those expected to grace the occasion include Permanent Secretaries, Local Government Chairmen, heads of security and paramilitary agencies, traditional rulers, chairmen and members of governing boards, captains of industry, government officials, and other distinguished guests.

The service, according to the statement, will also feature the Rivers State Administrator, Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), who will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.

Prof. Worika emphasized that the thanksgiving is not merely ceremonial but a powerful signal that Rivers State is “ready to embrace full democratic rule after a period of emergency governance,” adding that it is time for stakeholders to “join hands in charting a new path for peace, stability, and prosperity.”

The announcement has already stirred excitement across Port Harcourt and beyond, with many residents describing it as a fresh beginning for the state’s political and economic rebirth.
