Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, working in synergy with the Police and community watch groups, late Thursday night thwarted a deadly bandits’ attack in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, averting what could have been another bloodbath.
According to security sources, the armed assailants stormed Yar Makera Quarters around 9:50 p.m., firing sporadically to instill fear. But the troops, alongside vigilant Police operatives and community watch volunteers, responded with swift precision, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle that forced them into a chaotic retreat.
Sadly, the exchange claimed the life of Aliyu Hassan, 70, a resident of Yar Makera, who was fatally shot in the crossfire. Another victim, Mustapha Ado, 35, sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently receiving treatment under close medical supervision.
Military operatives confirmed that search operations are ongoing across the surrounding forests and escape routes to track down the fleeing bandits and neutralize further threats.
Security analysts say the incident underscores both the persistence of banditry in Katsina and the resilience of combined forces determined to shield vulnerable communities from incessant attacks.
