BREAKING: Political Earthquake Looms as Peter Obi Meets Jonathan Behind Closed Doors in Abuja

In what political observers are already describing as a potential game-changer, former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Thursday held a high-stakes closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja.

Obi, who revealed details of the visit on his official X handle, hailed Jonathan as an “elder brother, statesman, and leader”, stressing that their discussions focused on pressing national challenges and the state of the country’s fragile democracy.

The meeting has sparked intense speculation across Nigeria’s political landscape, especially as Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential election, is widely tipped to mount another bid for the nation’s top seat in 2027.

Although Obi has publicly expressed admiration and support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), he has yet to formally resign from the Labour Party (LP) or declare open membership of the ADC—keeping Nigerians guessing about his next political move.

For Jonathan, whose historic 2015 defeat ended the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) 16-year rule, calls have resurfaced for his possible return to the ballot. While he has remained tight-lipped, Thursday’s meeting with Obi has only deepened speculations of a potential alignment or alliance ahead of 2027.

Political analysts say the Abuja parley could signal early realignments among Nigeria’s power brokers as the race for the 2027 presidency begins to gather steam.
