BREAKING: National Grid Collapses Again — Blackout Hits 11 States, FCT in Midday Meltdown

Nigeria was on Wednesday plunged into yet another wave of darkness as the national electricity grid collapsed, throwing 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) into a sudden blackout.

The system failure, which occurred at 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, triggered a sharp drop of about 50 megawatts, leaving millions of households, businesses, and essential services stranded.

Preliminary reports indicated that the outage cut across 11 states alongside the nation’s capital, Abuja, sparking outrage from residents and businesses already grappling with frequent power disruptions.

This latest collapse marks yet another episode in Nigeria’s long-running struggle with an unstable power sector, despite billions of naira spent on generation and transmission infrastructure.

Industry experts warn that such recurrent grid failures not only cripple economic activities but also expose the fragility of the country’s energy system. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the collapse at press time.

Meanwhile, frustrated Nigerians have taken to social media to vent their anger, with many demanding urgent reforms and accountability in the power sector.
