FIERCE BATTLE IN SOKOTO FOREST: TROOPS RECOVER 68 STOLEN LIVESTOCK AFTER GUNFIGHT WITH TERRORISTS

In a daring operation, Nigerian troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA have successfully recovered 68 rustled livestock following a fierce gun battle with terrorists at the notorious Sauna/Goboro Forest, which straddles Illela and Tangaza Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.

The encounter, which occurred on September 2, erupted when armed terrorists attempted to move the stolen animals through the thick forest. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops swiftly intercepted the gang, sparking a heated exchange of gunfire that forced the criminals to abandon the livestock and flee into the bush.

According to security sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the terrorists, overwhelmed by superior firepower, were left with no choice but to retreat, leaving behind the stolen animals. The 68 recovered livestock were immediately handed over to the Maigari of Sauna village for onward transfer to Tangaza Local Government authorities.
Although one military Panhard vehicle developed a mechanical fault during the operation, it was swiftly retrieved and is currently undergoing repairs, ensuring no disruption in the momentum of the troops’ offensive against the marauders.

The latest success underscores the military’s renewed determination to rid Sokoto’s forests of terrorist cells and restore peace to local communities long tormented by banditry and cattle rustling.
