The management of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has swiftly distanced itself from the tragic accident in Enugu State that claimed multiple lives, insisting the truck involved does not belong to its fleet.
Earlier reports had alleged that a truck belonging to the conglomerate was responsible for the ghastly crash, fueling outrage among citizens. But in a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, Dangote Group dismissed the claims, describing them as “misinformation driven by mischief.”
According to the company, internal investigations revealed that the truck in question was operated by a third-party and not registered under the Dangote fleet. The firm further noted with concern that the vehicle carried its logo unlawfully, raising questions about the deliberate misuse of its brand identity.
> “We are actively engaging with the relevant agencies to ascertain why a truck not owned or managed by us was bearing our logo,” the statement read. “This is a clear case of brand misrepresentation, and going forward, we shall intensify scrutiny against such fraudulent practices.”
The Group stressed that it ordinarily avoids commenting on isolated incidents but was compelled to respond due to the growing trend of attributing fatal road mishaps to its operations without concrete evidence.
> “We urge the public and media to exercise restraint and desist from circulating unverified claims. We categorically reject any attempt to exploit human tragedies for malicious or financial gains,” the statement continued.
Dangote Industries reaffirmed its commitment to the highest standards of corporate responsibility, safety, and integrity, while pledging full cooperation with relevant investigative authorities.
The company concluded by assuring Nigerians that it remains unwavering in its mission to uphold transparency and accountability across all its operations.
