TRAGEDY ON ENUGU EXPRESSWAY: Dangote Truck Crushes Family of Four, Others in Horror Crash

A black Sunday befell residents of Enugu State as a Dangote truck rammed into a vehicle, crushing an entire family and three other individuals to death at the Four Corner axis along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway in Nkanu West Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses painted a chilling picture of the scene, describing the accident as “horrific and heart-wrenching.” Videos circulating on social media show the mangled remains of the vehicle, completely flattened under the weight of the heavy-duty trailer.

“A whole family was inside the vehicle. None of them survived,” a distraught witness recounted, his voice shaking as he relived the gruesome moment.

This fresh tragedy has reignited growing concerns over recurring road accidents involving Dangote trucks nationwide. Only last week, one of the conglomerate’s trucks was linked to the death of Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, the Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner. Ruth had battled for her life after the truck crushed her legs in Auchi, Edo State, but she sadly succumbed to her injuries despite frantic efforts to save her.

The Dangote Group, in a statement issued on Sunday, August 31, 2025, confirmed Ruth’s passing, expressing profound sorrow over the tragic incident. According to the company, arrangements had been made to fly her to India for advanced treatment before her sudden demise.

“On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time,” the statement read.
“Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs and supporting her family. Sadly, despite her brave fight, we lost her today.”

The group further stressed that safety, accountability, and compassion remain central to its operations, pledging to intensify efforts to strengthen its safety systems in order to prevent a repeat of such devastating incidents.

Meanwhile, the Enugu crash has sparked outrage among road users and commuters, with calls mounting on both state and federal authorities to rein in recklessness among heavy-duty drivers on Nigerian highways.

As families mourn their loved ones, the latest crash adds to the grim toll of fatalities linked to Dangote trucks across the country—an alarming trend that continues to leave a trail of tears and unanswered questions.
