Eid-ul-Mawlid: FG Declares Friday, September 5, Public Holiday, Urges Prayers for Peace and Unity

The Federal Government has officially declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday in commemoration of Eid-ul-Mawlid, the annual celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister, the government extended warm felicitations to Muslims across Nigeria and the world.

The message urged believers to emulate the timeless virtues of the Prophet — peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion — values that the government said remain critical to fostering harmony in a diverse nation like Nigeria.

The statement further called on Nigerians of all faiths to use the sacred occasion to pray fervently for peace, security, and stability, while also lending their support to the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen unity and national development.

“The Federal Government congratulates the Muslim Ummah and wishes them a joyous, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilling Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration,” the Minister said.
