LIVE UPDATES: Tension, Anticipation As Rivers Residents Elect Chairmen, Councillors After Supreme Court Verdict

By: Pioneer News Online

The atmosphere in Rivers State is charged with anticipation as voters throng polling units to decide the fate of their local government leadership in fresh elections across the oil-rich state.

Saturday’s polls come just months after the Supreme Court nullified the last council elections, throwing open the political turf and setting the stage for what many analysts describe as a decisive moment for grassroots democracy in Rivers.

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) confirmed that sensitive and non-sensitive materials have been fully distributed across all 23 local government areas. In line with standard security protocols, the government has imposed a restriction of movement from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm to ensure a hitch-free process.

Security presence remains visibly heavy, particularly around flashpoints in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor LGAs, as law enforcement agencies move to enforce the restrictions and maintain calm.

Pioneer News Online will bring you minute-by-minute coverage of events as they unfold across the state. Stay with us for real-time updates on the polls, from voter turnout to incidents on the ground.
