As Nigeria’s political temperature rises ahead of the 2027 general elections, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has shut down speculations of a looming defection, declaring his unshakable loyalty to the NNPP while hinting at possible political alliances.
Kwankwaso, who spoke at the 9th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja on Thursday, said Nigerians expecting him to abandon the party will be disappointed, stressing that the NNPP is not just a political vehicle but a growing movement with a clear vision for national transformation.
“Some people thought today’s meeting was about announcing whether I will leave NNPP or join another party. That was never the intention,” Kwankwaso stated firmly.
> “We are happy here, and we are comfortable. The NNPP is not in a hurry. We believe we have something meaningful to offer Nigerians at the highest leadership level, and we want to do it the right way. We are flexible, open to discussions, and committed to fairness and justice for all.”
Kwankwaso added that the party’s identity-driven membership structure continues to attract more Nigerians across the country, noting that any political negotiation ahead of 2027 will be collective, inclusive, and rooted in the NNPP’s guiding principles.
In his opening remarks, NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, electrified the gathering with a bold declaration: the party will again field Kwankwaso as its presidential candidate in 2027.
Ahmed described the NNPP as “the beautiful bride of Nigerian politics and democracy”, asserting that the party is no longer a fringe player but a dominant force shaping Nigeria’s future.
> “Our leader, Senator Kwankwaso, embodies competence, credibility, and vision. The NNPP is waxing stronger by the day, and as we march steadily toward 2027, Nigerians will find in us the credible alternative they seek,” Ahmed said.
With the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) already positioning themselves for 2027, Kwankwaso’s declaration of loyalty sends a powerful message: the NNPP is not only here to stay but is ready to challenge for the nation’s highest prize.
The political battle lines for 2027 are becoming clearer—and Kwankwaso just made sure the NNPP is right in the heart of the conversation.
