FAAN Elevates Air Travel Experience: Wheelchair Services and Special Assistance Rolled Out for Passengers in Need

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has unveiled a new era of inclusivity and comfort in Nigeria’s aviation sector with the launch of enhanced wheelchair services and special assistance for passengers with disabilities, the elderly, and others requiring mobility support at airports nationwide.

In a statement issued on Monday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, emphasized that the initiative is part of the authority’s commitment to ensuring that “every passenger travels with dignity, safety, and comfort.”

According to her, the improved wheelchair support will now be provided seamlessly from check-in through boarding and up to arrival, ensuring passengers in need do not face undue stress while navigating terminals.

> “Wheelchair services are provided from check-in through boarding and on arrival. Dedicated staff are available to offer guidance and support, while priority is given at security checks and boarding gates,” the statement read.

Beyond wheelchairs, FAAN has also introduced accessible facilities, including upgraded restrooms and elevators across major terminals, making air travel more inclusive for all categories of travellers.

Orah further advised passengers requiring mobility aid to inform their airline or airport staff in advance, or make requests at designated special assistance desks upon arrival, for swift and efficient service.

The move has been widely praised as a progressive step toward global best practices in air travel, as it not only prioritizes passenger welfare but also enhances Nigeria’s standing in the international aviation community.

With this development, FAAN has signaled its resolve to create an airport environment where no traveller is left behind, reinforcing the message that air travel should be an empowering, not intimidating, experience.
