Tinubu’s Govt Under Fire as Nigerians Mock Double Standards in Rivers and Osun Local Govt Allocations

Parallel Facts News has stirred heated debates after announcing via its official X handle that while an undemocratic caretaker administration in Rivers State is receiving steady local government allocations, the democratically elected government in Osun State, under Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been denied the same lifeline.

This revelation has triggered outrage among Nigerians, who accuse President Bola Tinubu’s administration of operating double standards that undermine democracy while rewarding illegality.

Social media was set ablaze with comparisons between the two states. One user, Opeyemi Babalola, wrote:

> “Rivers State under an undemocratic administrator is receiving local government allocation. Osun State, under the legally approved democratic government, is not receiving local government allocation. Welcome to Nigeria under the ‘Progressives.’”

The post resonated widely, with many Nigerians mocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of weaponizing state resources for political convenience.

Adding fuel to the controversy, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, on August 17, 2025, disclosed that Governor Adeleke, alongside his elder brother and popular Nigerian musician, Davido, had to step in personally to fund workers’ salaries in Osun after the Federal Government allegedly withheld local government allocations.

George revealed that Adeleke confided in him about the Federal Government’s persistent financial blockade and even hinted at leaving the PDP out of frustration. He said he pleaded with the governor to reconsider, especially given the heavy financial strain on the state.
Despite enormous challenges, Adeleke reportedly rallied his family to save the situation. His elder brother and Davido jointly contributed funds to ensure Osun workers did not go unpaid—a move that has earned the governor praise for prioritizing the welfare of his people, even in the face of systemic neglect from Abuja.

This development has further deepened questions about President Tinubu’s commitment to fairness, equity, and true federalism. Critics argue that withholding allocations from a democratic government while rewarding a caretaker setup in Rivers is not only hypocritical but also sets a dangerous precedent for Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Political watchers now warn that if such selective governance continues, it could erode public trust, fuel political instability, and embolden anti-democratic tendencies across the country.
