Sahara Reporters has taken to it’s official X handle and announced that, The Enugu State Police Command has uncovered a chilling crime that has sent shockwaves through the state — the kidnapping and gruesome murder of a five-year-old boy by his own cousin.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, 18-year-old Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom was arrested for allegedly masterminding the abduction and killing of his second cousin, little Obodoagu Wisdom, after his family failed to meet a ₦1,000,000 ransom demand.
Ndukwe revealed in a statement on Wednesday that the operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad also apprehended a second suspect, 24-year-old Sunday Michael, a security guard from Mayo-Belwa LGA in Adamawa State, who was recruited as an accomplice in the shocking crime.
The suspects were nabbed on August 11 and 12, 2025, following a painstaking intelligence-led operation.
“The child was first reported missing on July 26, 2025. Investigations revealed that the prime suspect connived with his accomplice to place ransom calls to the victim’s father, disguising his identity. When the ransom was not paid, the suspect brutally murdered the innocent child and buried him in a bush near their residence,” Ndukwe disclosed.
He further confirmed that during interrogation, both suspects confessed to the heinous act. The 18-year-old suspect later led investigators to the shallow grave where the victim’s body was exhumed in the presence of medical experts, who certified the child dead.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, described the crime as “heart-wrenching and utterly inhumane,” extending his condolences to the devastated family. He assured that justice would be swift and uncompromising, emphasizing that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations.
CP Giwa also reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring that those who dare to shed innocent blood face the full wrath of the law.
