The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 952 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), in what has been described as a major step to boost morale and strengthen command capacity within the Nigeria Police Force.
However, the Commission withheld the promotion of 176 ASPs who had retired from service and declined approval for three others who were reported to have died before the exercise. This was contained in a statement released on Wednesday by the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani.
PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, congratulated the newly promoted officers, urging them to embrace professionalism, discipline, and strict adherence to the laws and regulations guiding the Nigeria Police Force.
He warned that the Commission would no longer tolerate diversionary or unauthorized actions by serving officers, stressing that existing official channels remain open for the ventilation of grievances.
Argungu assured that the PSC remained unwavering in its commitment to fair career progression for all deserving officers, stressing that promotions will be strictly based on merit, performance, and integrity.
Among those promoted are: Maidawa Yakubu, Edwin Thomas, Chagga Yakubu, Sabo Hassan, Omini Dickson, Bassey Alobo, Enyinnaya Ejimadu, Grace Okon, Rose Bassey, Fidelis Offorbuike, Adamu Isa Audu, and Ofem Uket.
Also decorated with their new ranks are Elvina Ochia Chukwu of the FCID Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos; Kyrian Igwe of the Enugu State Command; Ndidiamaka Onwude, Officer-in-Charge of the Juvenile Welfare Centre, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State; Rosemary Obianuju Egbo of the Warri Area Command, Delta State; Tabitha Gotan; Uya Bassey Johnson of the Abia State Command; Elizabeth Ajik of the NPF-NCC, FCID; Sunday Prince Ajaegbu of 44 PMF Force Headquarters, Abuja; and Deborah Danjuma of SPU Base 7, Abuja.
Others include Olowu Yetunde Olatunde of the Ogun State Command; Felix Okpaleke of 32 PMF, Abakaliki; Zakka Bulus of the FCT Command, Abuja; Kudirat Elegba of SPU Base 2, Lagos; Isioma Omodion of the Delta State Command; Ukpabio Ayi Akiba of the Rivers State Command; and Edna Emeh Bassey.
Ani further disclosed that the PSC has formally conveyed the promotion approvals to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for immediate implementation through a letter signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
This mass promotion is expected to re-energize the Force at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with security challenges, while also serving as motivation for other officers aspiring to climb the ranks.
