PVC: Obi Rallies Nigerians To Register, Declares Democracy’s Power Lies In The Voter’s Card

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has once again stirred the national consciousness, urging Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), which he described as the ultimate weapon for building a New Nigeria.

Speaking during Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme on July 6, 2025, and in a post via his official X handle on Monday, Obi stressed that no Nigerian should underestimate the power of their PVC, calling it “the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the weak, and the weapon of the poor against injustice and bad leadership.”
“The future of our dear nation is in your hands. The greatest strength of democracy is in the voter’s card,” Obi declared, urging citizens to shun political apathy and prepare to vote with courage and conviction.

Obi, who served as governor of Anambra State, warned that vote selling remains one of the greatest tragedies of Nigeria’s democracy, insisting that politicians who buy votes do so only to gain access to public funds which they subsequently loot.

“To sell your vote is to mortgage your future and deny yourself and your children access to quality education, healthcare, job opportunities, and a better standard of living,” he cautioned.

He called on Nigerians—particularly youths, who make up the majority of the population—to organise themselves, register, and stand united against electoral manipulation, saying that only an active and determined electorate can make election rigging difficult.

Obi, whose political mantra of a New Nigeria continues to resonate across the country, reminded Nigerians that democracy thrives not in slogans but in active participation.

“Your PVC is the bridge to a New Nigeria. Do not let it go to waste,” he said, rallying citizens to seize the moment as the nation prepares for another round of elections.
