The political heartbeat of Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State pulsed with suspense as results of the much-awaited State House of Assembly bye-election were declared. In a contest that tested the strength and resilience of both dominant parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) reclaimed its stronghold by securing a razor-thin victory over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The bye-election followed the demise of the late APC lawmaker who represented the constituency, making the stakes even higher for the ruling party. With the final votes tallied across the ten wards, APC polled a total of 16,730 votes, narrowly edging out PDP which garnered 16,605 votes. The difference: a slim but decisive 125 votes.
Ward-by-Ward Breakdown
The contest was fiercely competitive, with victories alternating between both parties across the wards:
Bakari Guso Ward: PDP – 1,057 | APC – 881
Gamu Ward: APC – 1,391 | PDP – 1,034
Ganye I Ward: APC – 2,252 | PDP – 2,150

APC’s Road to Reclaiming Ganye
Although PDP managed to secure five wards, the APC capitalized on its bastions of support in Gamu, Ganye I, Gurum, Jaggu, and most decisively, Timdore Ward — which delivered the highest single tally of 2,698 votes. This crucial performance enabled APC to reclaim the seat it previously held, restoring confidence among its supporters that the constituency remains firmly within its grip.
The razor-thin margin also demonstrates the intense political rivalry and the heightened awareness of the electorate. Yet, for APC, victory means continuity of its legacy in Ganye, while for PDP, the result reflects strength but also a painful near miss.
With this outcome, the APC has successfully reclaimed its mandate in Ganye Constituency, reaffirming the late member’s legacy and reestablishing the constituency as an APC stronghold. The victory may have come with the slimmest of margins, but in politics, even a single vote is enough to secure history.
