In a blistering political broadside, fiery northern politician, Hajiya Nàja’atu Mohammed, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of weaponising the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to intimidate opposition figures — declaring that the move has only turned him into the “unofficial campaign coordinator” for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Her remarks came shortly after she visited the residence of Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator representing Sokoto South, who had just regained his freedom after a 24-hour detention by the EFCC.
On August 11, 2025, SaharaReporters revealed that Tambuwal was grilled over an alleged ₦189 billion fraud scandal, including accusations of massive cash withdrawals in breach of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. He was released the following day, with the EFCC remaining tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding his freedom.
But Nàja’atu was unsparing in her response, calling the episode “a politically motivated charade”.
> “Alhamdulillahi (thank God) for what happened,” she said defiantly. “They have now openly declared Tinubu as ADC’s campaign director. By targeting our leaders, they have shown that they have no focus, no strategy, and no plan. If they don’t arrest me, I will feel like I haven’t even started.”
She urged Tambuwal to remain resolute, warning that any retreat from the political battlefield would be a betrayal to millions of Nigerians yearning for change.
> “May ADC be the reason Nigeria rises again — by taking this nation from the hands of hypocrites and illiterates,” she declared. “Right now, this country is in the hands of useless people… people who are arrogant, ignorant, and utterly unfit to lead. The Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said that anyone who is not afraid of offending God has no faith — and that is the kind of leadership we are suffering under.”
According to her, the ongoing harassment of ADC leaders is not a sign of strength but of desperation from a government losing public trust. She predicted that every attempt to silence dissent would only fuel ADC’s momentum and expand its national reach before the 2027 polls.
> “We should thank God we are among those who will rescue Nigeria,” she concluded. “They can try to weaken us, but in reality, they are only making us stronger.”
With the political temperature rising, observers say this fiery confrontation signals the start of an even more combative opposition movement, one determined to turn alleged persecution into a rallying cry for power.
