The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old man, identified as Ifeanyi Odinka, for allegedly stabbing his 75-year-old father, Denius Odinka, to death during a heated dispute over the proceeds of a land sale.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Okoye Henry revealed that operatives from the Orlu Division carried out the arrest on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, in Amaifeke, Orlu Local Government Area of the state.
> “On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime,” Henry stated, adding that Ifeanyi has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri for further investigation and eventual prosecution.
The tragic confrontation, according to preliminary findings, reportedly escalated from a bitter quarrel over who should control the money generated from the sale of family land — an all-too-common source of deadly conflict in parts of Nigeria.
The police urged residents of Imo to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest station.
Land-related disputes remain one of the most volatile triggers of family and communal violence in Nigeria, especially in rural communities where land is both a source of livelihood and a symbol of heritage. In recent years, the Imo State Police Command has recorded several homicides linked to inheritance and boundary disputes.
In another disturbing development, operatives of the Orlu Divisional Headquarters have apprehended Pastor Ikenna Emmanuel, 32, founder of Authentic Power City Church in Umuobom, Ideato-South LGA, alongside Franklin Chizoba, for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman.
According to the police, the incident occurred on June 30, 2025, after the victim was invited to the pastor’s residence under the guise of receiving special prayers. Upon arrival, she was allegedly given a drink that caused dizziness, allowing the pastor and his accomplice to take turns violating her.
The case has drawn public outrage, with many community members calling for swift justice to serve as a deterrent against abuses perpetrated under the cover of religious authority.
This chilling double case from Imo State underscores the rising tide of violent and exploitative crimes — from family feuds that spill blood to abuses of trust by religious leaders — and the urgent need for stronger community vigilance and faster judicial processes to curb such atrocities.
