Gombe State was thrown into mourning this morning, Saturday, 9th August 2025, following a fatal road accident involving an Adamawa Sunshine transport vehicle along the ever-busy Gombe Road. The tragic incident occurred near the Local Gonna Bridge, just before Miles Uku, leaving a trail of casualties and severe injuries.
According to eyewitness accounts, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while navigating the bridge, causing it to veer off the road and plunge into the river below. Passengers screamed in terror as the vehicle sank, with some managing to escape while others sustained life-threatening injuries.
Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that several victims suffered fractured legs and other serious wounds, while the lifeless bodies of others were pulled from the wreckage. The chaotic scene drew the attention of locals, who rushed to offer first aid before emergency responders arrived.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commandant and the Police Public Relations Officer in Gombe State for official confirmation proved abortive.
The accident has once again raised questions over road safety, driver caution, and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of speed limits on Nigeria’s highways.
