Global Glory: Yobe State to Honour Teenage Champions of English Skills and Debate in London

In a momentous celebration of academic excellence and international recognition, the Yobe State Government has announced a grand reception in honour of Nafisa Abdullah (17) and Rukayya Muhammad Fema (15)—two brilliant students who have put Nigeria on the global map by emerging as overall winners at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, United Kingdom.

The prodigious duo, students of Nigerian Tulip International College, triumphed over 20,000 contestants from 69 countries, clinching top positions in English Language Skills and Debate competitions respectively. Their remarkable achievement is not only a proud moment for Yobe State but also a resounding testament to the power of quality education and investment in youth development.

In a statement released by the Director General of Press and Media Affairs, the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, expressed profound pride in the historic feat achieved by the girls, describing their success as “a great honour to the state and the entire nation.”

“These are phenomenal accomplishments that validate our commitment to revitalising education in Yobe State,” Governor Buni stated. “It proves that with the right support, our children can compete and triumph on the world stage.”

Both Nafisa and Rukayya are beneficiaries of the Yobe State Government’s full scholarship programme, which currently supports 890 students at the Nigerian Tulip International College. Governor Buni reaffirmed that his administration will continue to provide robust support for education, with particular emphasis on access, equity, and quality.

He noted that over 40,000 students from Yobe are currently on scholarships across various universities and tertiary institutions within and outside Nigeria.

The governor also highlighted key interventions his administration has made in the education sector: reconstruction of schools destroyed by insurgency, provision of modern furniture, learning materials, laboratory equipment, and the recruitment of qualified teachers to improve educational outcomes across the state.

Governor Buni further appealed to parents and guardians to support government efforts by encouraging their children to attend school, assuring them that the government remains resolute in its mission to make education accessible and transformative for every Yobe child.

As the state prepares to roll out the red carpet for its young heroines, their inspirational journey stands as a shining beacon of hope for millions of Nigerian youths dreaming of greatness beyond borders.
