In a dramatic turn of events, the Nigerian Police have arraigned a notorious suspected serial killer, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Esho, before an Ogba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for the alleged brutal killing of eight individuals and causing permanent disability to a woman.
The 44-year-old, whose name has sent shivers down spines across several communities, appeared before Chief Magistrate Mobolaji Tanimola on Monday, where he faced a damning 11-count charge.
According to the charge sheet presented by the Police, Olori Esho is accused of conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession of firearms, and wielding a poisonous dager. Other weighty charges include attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, threat to life, unlawful possession of international passports, and being in possession of other dangerous weapons.
The police allege that Akinwande masterminded a string of cold-blooded killings that left multiple families in mourning and a woman permanently incapacitated. His criminal trail, according to investigators, spans months of terror marked by bloodshed, stealth, and calculated brutality.
Court proceedings were tense, as security was beefed up around the courtroom due to the high-profile nature of the case. Members of the public, still reeling from the horror of the alleged crimes, expressed relief that the suspect has finally been brought to justice.
While the prosecution is pushing for a full trial, the case has been adjourned pending further legal procedures. Meanwhile, the court has ordered that the suspect be remanded in police custody as investigations continue.
The arrest and arraignment of Olori Esho come as a significant breakthrough in Nigeria’s battle against rising cases of violent crime, as authorities vow to ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families.
