Terror on the Plateau: 14 Killed in Market Ambush as Armed Herders Strike Again in Bokkos

By Parallel Facts News

At least 14 villagers, including women and children, have been gruesomely murdered in a deadly ambush on Thursday evening near Chirang village in the Mangor district of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The victims, who had just concluded their routine trading at the weekly Bokkos town market, were returning home when their vehicle came under heavy attack by suspected armed herders, identified by local sources and community leaders as Fulani militants.

The attack, which has sent shockwaves through the region, is being described as part of a systematic and bloody campaign of terror aimed at displacing indigenous communities from central Plateau.

Reacting to the horror, Farmasum Fuddang, Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Forum (BCDF) Vanguard, condemned the massacre, branding it “a calculated and relentless attempt to annihilate our people and claim ancestral lands through violence.”

> “This isn’t an isolated incident,” Fuddang stated. “It is part of a terrifying pattern of ethnic cleansing that has plagued Bokkos and surrounding areas for years. Our people are being hunted.”

The BCDF revealed that this ambush occurred just 48 hours after a young man was murdered in the same vicinity, further heightening tensions and fears in the region. According to the group, nearly 100 people have been killed in the area within the past two years, with over 60 lives lost on Christmas Eve 2023 alone during a coordinated night assault.

Residents have reported sightings of large groups of armed militants, advancing toward vulnerable communities, with ongoing gun battles between the military and the attackers confirmed at the time of reporting.

Despite repeated bloodshed, many in the community are growing increasingly disillusioned and abandoned, pointing fingers at government inaction and silence. “Where is the federal government? Where are the security assurances?” one aggrieved local asked.

The atmosphere remains tense as communities brace for further violence amid a troubling vacuum of decisive state intervention.
