Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has continued to receive widespread praise for his outstanding strides in infrastructural development and economic revitalisation, positioning the state as a beacon of growth in Northern Nigeria.
One of the most vocal commendations came from legal luminary and retired Permanent Secretary in the National Assembly’s Directorate of Human Resources, Barrister Shuaibu Maina Birma, who described Buni’s leadership as transformative and visionary.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Birma lauded the governor’s achievements across key sectors, including commerce, agriculture, power supply, health, and road infrastructure. According to him, Buni’s bold initiatives have turned Yobe into an emerging commercial nerve centre, with business activities booming, thanks to massive investments in roads, electricity, and the construction of ultra-modern markets.
“Yobe is fast becoming a commercial hub,” Birma noted. “The government’s investment in physical infrastructure has provided the fertile ground for businesses to thrive.”
Highlighting major developmental projects, Birma pointed to the construction of 3,600 housing units spread across the state, as well as the distribution of tractors and agricultural inputs to thousands of farmers—moves that have not only empowered rural dwellers but also increased food production and job creation.
He also commended the administration’s aggressive push in road development, revealing that hundreds of kilometres of roads with drainage systems have been constructed across all 17 local government areas, vastly improving interconnectivity between rural and urban communities.
“Damaturu, the state capital, has experienced a stunning transformation—it now looks like a brand-new city,” Birma enthused.
On the power sector, he noted that many previously disconnected towns and villages have now been linked to the national grid, resulting in a more consistent electricity supply that is fuelling small-scale enterprises and improving living standards.
The former federal official further praised Governor Buni’s reforms in the health sector. He specifically cited the procurement of modern medical equipment for hospitals and health centres across the state as a bold step toward modernising healthcare delivery.
He also hailed the establishment of the Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (YSCHMA), a scheme that has expanded access to affordable medical care. “Under this initiative, civil servants enjoy subsidised medical treatments, while rural residents receive care completely free of charge,” he explained.
Birma said his recent tour of the state revealed real, tangible improvements, describing the transformation as a direct result of prudent and transparent management of public funds.
“The people of Yobe are visibly pleased. There is a sense of pride and renewed hope. Governor Buni has demonstrated that with focus, integrity, and vision, real development is achievable,” he added.
As accolades continue to pour in, observers say Governor Buni’s approach could serve as a blueprint for other state leaders seeking to foster inclusive and sustainable development across Nigeria.
