“Wike Is Abusing Power With Impunity” — Senator Ireti Kingibe Alleges ₦198 Million Land Fee Slash For Minister’s Son, Massive Land Grabs In Abuja

Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the National Assembly, has leveled explosive allegations against the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of gross abuse of office, unlawful land allocations, and autocratic leadership that undermines democratic governance.

In a no-holds-barred interview with Arise TV, Senator Kingibe accused the former Rivers State governor of using his position to serve personal and family interests, particularly in land matters. She revealed that she possesses credible documents showing that Wike allocated vast tracts of Abuja’s premium land to his son and subsequently slashed a ₦200 million bill for the land to a mere ₦2 million.

> “I have documents to show that Minister Wike allocated lands to his son—huge tracts of land,” Kingibe declared. “They were billed ₦200 million but wrote to him for a waiver, and within 48 hours, the bill was reduced to ₦2 million. At the very least, it is unethical. It is unfair. It’s an abuse of privilege.”

‘I Will Submit Evidence To Authorities’ — Kingibe Vows

The senator did not stop at making public claims. She vowed to present the documents to appropriate legal and oversight bodies to ensure accountability.

> “I’m going to take those documents to the relevant authorities—the equivalent of his state assembly—and push that the president, from whom Wike derives his power, submits all his decisions to the National Assembly for review,” she asserted.

Kingibe further accused the minister of running the FCT like a personal estate, with total disregard for the rule of law. She decried his pattern of unilateral decision-making and his alleged disdain for legal processes.

> “The primary issue is that the minister doesn’t obey the rule of law. He’s autocratic. He doesn’t follow due process. And when you remind him that governance is rooted in law, he brushes it aside.”

The senator criticized Wike for reinstating defunct agencies and implementing policies without seeking legislative approval. One example, she said, was the revocation of thousands of hectares of land previously allocated to the University of Abuja.

> “The University of Abuja had 11,000 hectares. Minister Wike has revoked 7,000 hectares and left them with just four. It’s completely against the Land Use Act to strip educational institutions of land for redistribution to private individuals,” Kingibe emphasized.

Beyond land allocations, Kingibe also condemned Wike’s social and environmental policies. She said his mass dismissal of indigent women who served as street sweepers has led to deteriorating sanitation in the capital.

> “Every minister met these women cleaning the streets. He came in and fired them all—without providing alternatives like mechanized sweepers. Now Abuja looks dirty and neglected.”

She also accused the minister of aggressively pursuing ground rent collections from both residents and diplomatic missions in a manner she described as “harassment.”

> “Even embassies are being harassed over ground rent by Minister Wike. This is not how you manage a capital city—especially one that represents Nigeria on the global stage.”

SaharaReporters Confirms: 2,000 Hectares Of Abuja Land Allocated To Wike’s Son

Supporting Kingibe’s claims, SaharaReporters referenced an explosive Peoples Gazette investigation that revealed Wike had allegedly signed off over 2,000 hectares of Abuja’s most valuable land to his son, Joaquin Wike.

The report, which cited official records and inside sources, indicated that Wike bypassed essential regulations and neglected mandatory fees in breach of Nigeria’s Constitution and civil service guidelines. The land allocations reportedly span Abuja’s elite districts—Maitama, Asokoro, Guzape, Bwari, and Gaduwa—with an estimated value of $3.6 billion (approx. ₦5.4 trillion).

This latest development intensifies the scrutiny on Minister Wike’s stewardship of the FCT and could trigger serious legal and political consequences if Senator Kingibe follows through with her promised action.
