In a poignant moment of national reflection, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has passionately appealed to residents to extend a warm and dignified welcome to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is visiting the state to condole with the people over the death of renowned industrialist and elder statesman, Alhaji Aminu Dantata.
In a statement released on Thursday, Governor Yusuf described the president’s visit as more than ceremonial—it is a solemn tribute to a man who epitomized selflessness, philanthropy, and commercial excellence in Nigeria.
> “I urge all Kano residents to receive the President warmly and in an orderly manner as he joins us in mourning one of our greatest elder statesmen. This is a moment of solemn reflection and national respect,” the governor stated.
Governor Yusuf emphasized Kano’s long-standing tradition of hospitality and called for peaceful and respectful conduct during the president’s visit. He assured that adequate security and logistics arrangements have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free event.
President Tinubu’s visit comes in the wake of the passing of Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who died on June 28, 2025, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, at the age of 94. He was later laid to rest in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, in accordance with Islamic rites.
A titan of industry, a devout Muslim, and a humanitarian par excellence, Dantata was the last surviving son of the legendary merchant, Alhassan Dantata, one of West Africa’s wealthiest men in the early 20th century. He played a pivotal role in expanding the Dantata business dynasty and remained a key figure in shaping the commercial and philanthropic landscape of Nigeria.
Beyond his family empire, Alhaji Aminu Dantata was the founder of Express Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd. and a driving force behind the establishment of Jaiz Bank, Nigeria’s first non-interest (Islamic) financial institution. His contributions to Islamic education, youth empowerment, and community development earned him widespread admiration across the nation and beyond.
News of his passing was first shared by Uba Tanko Mijinyawa, Deputy National Treasurer of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), prompting an outpouring of tributes from business leaders, traditional rulers, and political figures nationwide.
As President Tinubu arrives in Kano to pay his respects, the moment is seen not only as a condolence visit but also as a rare convergence of politics, legacy, and national unity—honouring a man whose life’s work continues to inspire generations.
Governor Yusuf concluded his message by calling on the people of Kano to embody the values Alhaji Dantata stood for—peace, dignity, and unwavering commitment to humanity.
