National Mourning: APC Shuts Down Secretariat as Tributes Pour In for Late President Muhammadu Buhari

In a solemn tribute to the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially closed its National Secretariat in Abuja. The closure, which commenced on Monday, July 14, will last until Thursday, July 17, 2025, as part of a nationwide period of mourning.

This development was contained in a statement issued by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

“As directed by the Acting National Chairman of our great Party, Hon. Bukar Dalori, the Party’s National Secretariat will be closed starting today, Monday, July 14, and will reopen on Thursday, July 17, 2025,” the statement read.
“We urge Party faithful to use this period of national mourning for quiet reflection and prayers for the repose of the soul of our departed leader.”

President Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s civilian leader from 2015 to 2023 after a previous tenure as military Head of State between 1983 and 1985, died on Sunday in London at approximately 4:30 p.m. after a prolonged battle with leukaemia. He was 82.

In a related move, the Katsina State Government — Buhari’s home state — declared Monday a work-free day to honour the late leader. This was announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, to enable residents to join in nationwide prayers and reflection.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Katsina, and all Nigerians. In a poignant message, he eulogized Buhari as “a great leader, a hero, a true democrat, and a patriotic elder statesman whose life was wholly dedicated to the service of Nigeria.”

Governor Radda also offered prayers for the repose of Buhari’s soul, asking Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings and reward his lifetime of public service with Aljannatul Firdaus.

The passing of Muhammadu Buhari marks the end of a remarkable chapter in Nigeria’s history — one defined by his disciplined leadership style, anti-corruption campaigns, and unwavering commitment to national unity. As the nation mourns, his legacy continues to spark conversations about patriotism, democracy, and public accountability.
