Renowned security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, has reported a deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves across Benue State. Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Makama revealed that a Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) student allegedly beat his teacher to death in Oju Local Government Area over a minor disciplinary action.
According to reliable sources cited by Makama, the suspect—identified as 16-year-old Friday Ogamude, a student of UBE Oju Centre—confronted his teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, 35, in a fit of rage over a cap the teacher had confiscated since May 2025.
What began as a verbal altercation over the seized cap quickly turned violent. Eyewitnesses said the student, in a moment of fury, physically attacked the teacher during the heated exchange. Tragically, Mr. Oyibe reportedly slumped and collapsed on the spot.
He was rushed to Amara Hospital in Oju, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body of the late teacher has been documented and transferred to the General Hospital in Oju for a full autopsy, as law enforcement authorities intensify their investigation.
The Benue State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the teenage suspect and has strongly condemned the act, describing it as “a horrific and senseless loss of life.” The command has assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing and that justice will be served.
This incident has sparked outrage and sorrow among educators, parents, and community leaders, with many calling for urgent reforms in student discipline, moral reorientation, and improved teacher protection in schools.
As investigations continue, the community of Oju and the entire state grapple with the tragic loss of a young educator whose life was cut short under shocking and heartbreaking circumstances.
