In a bold move to modernize mobility and uplift the welfare of its personnel, the Nigeria Police Force has launched a new welfare initiative offering electric motorcycles on a convenient loan scheme to officers nationwide.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society and approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, aims to provide Spiro-brand electric bikes to interested officers through a salary deduction plan.
According to an internal wireless message marked “CB:4780/COOP/VOL.2/48” and exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters on Saturday, the loan scheme is part of a broader welfare reform strategy being rolled out by the police hierarchy under Egbetokun’s administration.
The circular titled “POLICE WIRELESS MESSAGE”, was addressed to all commands and departments of the force — including the DFA, DOPS, DLS, FCIID, COMPOLs in all 36 states, and various tactical squads — and officially introduces Joafol Communications as the exclusive provider of the electric motorcycles.
The electric two-wheelers, according to the circular, are capable of covering a distance of up to 80 kilometers on a single full charge — a significant mileage suited for urban and semi-urban policing. The bikes are priced at ₦1,900,000 (One Million, Nine Hundred Thousand Naira) each and will be offered to officers on loan, repayable through a monthly salary deduction of ₦45,000 over a period of 43 months.
The memo reads in part:
> “X COOPERATIVE ACTIVITIES X IN LINE WITH THE WELFARE PROGRAMME OF INGENPOL X THE NIGERIA POLICE COOPERATIVE MULTI-PURPOSE SOCIETY LTD X WISHES TO INTRODUCE X JOAFOL COMMUNICATIONS X SUPPLIERS OF SPIRO ELECTRIC BIKES X WHEN FULLY CHARGED CAN GO 80 KILOMETERS X ON LOAN TO INTERESTED MEMBERS OF THE FORCE X AT THE RATE OF ONE MILLION NINE HUNDRED THOUSAND NAIRA (N1,900,000) ONLY X MONTHLY DEDUCTION WILL BE FORTY-FIVE THOUSAND NAIRA (#45,000) ONLY X TO BE PAID WITHIN FORTY-THREE (43) MONTHS X ALL MONEY WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM RECIPIENTS’ SALARY X VIA IPPIS X FORMS WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE BY THE COMPANY FOR COLLECTION AT ALL COOPERATIVE SHOPS NATIONWIDE X”
This electric motorcycle initiative comes barely three months after the force rolled out another phase of its welfare programme involving the provision of tricycles to personnel.
In a separate wireless message dated March 12, 2025, and signed by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Police Cooperative Society in Lagos, officers were informed of an opportunity to acquire tricycle trucks, trike pickups, single-cabin TTI vehicles, tricycle taxis, and even tricycle ambulances — all provided by Bulk Stalker Engineering Limited.
The cost for each tricycle unit was pegged at ₦5,500,000, with a monthly repayment of ₦90,000 spread across 60 months, similarly deducted from salaries via the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
Both schemes underscore the Inspector-General’s continued drive to enhance the welfare and operational efficiency of officers through practical mobility solutions and structured financial relief.
As the Police Force continues to grapple with logistics and mobility challenges nationwide, these innovations are expected to not only ease commuting but also improve officers’ morale, reduce maintenance costs, and support Nigeria’s growing shift toward green, energy-efficient technologies.
