Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has lauded the recent ruling by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which nullified the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing it as a bold and commendable step towards safeguarding democracy and the rule of law.
In a heartfelt message posted on his official Facebook page, Atiku wrote:
> “I commend Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, for her courage in lifting the obnoxious suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central. This ruling is a triumph for justice and a signal that democratic institutions must be protected from arbitrary abuse.”
The former Vice President also praised Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for her bravery in challenging what he called the illegality of her suspension, especially in a political space where women continue to face marginalization and systemic hurdles.
> “I also hail Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for not sleeping on her rights and for having the fortitude to legally challenge an injustice in a chamber where women are already vulnerable. There’s no price too great in asserting one’s rights,” Atiku added.
The six-month suspension imposed on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Nigerian Senate was declared unconstitutional and unlawful by the court, sparking nationwide applause from pro-democracy advocates and rights groups.
Atiku’s remarks further emphasize the urgent need to uphold the constitution, protect legislative integrity, and encourage more women to speak out against political oppression. His comments are seen as a powerful endorsement of both judicial independence and women’s resilience in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
