“JUST IN: House of Reps Unveils Timeline for Nationwide Constitution Review Hearings Across Nigeria”

In a significant move toward constitutional reform, the House of Representatives has officially announced dates for a nationwide public hearing on the ongoing constitutional review process.

Taking to its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Nigerian Stories reported that the House has set a structured timeline for the much-anticipated consultations, which will give citizens across Nigeria an opportunity to contribute to the shaping of the nation’s supreme law.

According to the announcement, the first phase of the public hearings will cover the northern zones and will run from Friday, July 11 to Sunday, July 13, 2025. This will be followed by the second phase for the southern zones, scheduled to hold from Friday, July 18 to Sunday, July 20, 2025.

To crown the process, a national public hearing will take place in Abuja on Monday, July 21, 2025, bringing together stakeholders, lawmakers, legal experts, civil society groups, and the general public for robust deliberations on proposed amendments.

This inclusive initiative is aimed at gathering grassroots input, addressing structural imbalances, and modernizing sections of the 1999 Constitution to reflect the aspirations of today’s Nigeria. It is expected to spark far-reaching conversations on issues such as state police, resource control, local government autonomy, judicial reform, and gender equity.

The House of Representatives urges Nigerians to actively participate and make their voices count in what is widely seen as a historic opportunity to reshape the nation’s future.
