The Adamawa State chapter of the National Association of Persons With Physical Disabilities (NAPWD) has officially inaugurated a new set of executives to steer the affairs of the association for the next four years. The colourful swearing-in ceremony was held earlier this week in Yola and drew dignitaries, members, and well-wishers from across the state and beyond.

In his inaugural address, the newly sworn-in Chairman, Malam Abdullahi Toungo, passionately urged his executive team to offer unwavering support in moving the association forward. He emphasized unity, dedication, and purposeful leadership as the pillars for achieving lasting impact within the NAPWD.

Malam Toungo made a clarion call for dignity and self-reliance among members, declaring:

> “Any indigene of Adamawa State who resorts to begging has, by that act, forfeited their membership in this association. We must uphold our dignity and strive for self-sufficiency.”

The Chairman expressed heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming turnout and support the association received from guests who traveled from far and wide to witness the historic occasion. He also made a strong appeal to government authorities at all levels to ensure the inclusion of persons with disabilities in appointments and governance structures.

Touching on institutional development, Toungo revealed that plans are underway to establish a state-level commission for persons with disabilities, pending the governor’s approval.

> “The Federal Government laid the foundation during President Buhari’s first tenure. Now we await the final nod from our state leadership,” he said, expressing optimism for swift action.

The ceremony also featured remarks from Mr. Iliyasu Emos, Chairman of the Electoral and Inauguration Committee, who advised the new executives to lead by example and uphold the constitution and regulations guiding the association.

> “Leadership is a call to service. Fulfill the promises you made during your campaign and always remember your responsibility to the people,” Emos charged.

In a goodwill message, Malam Abdullahi Adamu, a member of the inauguration committee, commended the peaceful nature of both the election and swearing-in ceremony. He praised the unity and maturity displayed by members and offered prayers for the success of the new leadership team over the next four years.

The event was not short of excitement. Highlights included traditional dances, local delicacies, and light-hearted tribal jokes, all of which added colour and cultural flair to the occasion. The celebratory atmosphere underscored a sense of renewed hope, resilience, and determination among persons with disabilities in Adamawa State.

As the new NAPWD leadership begins its journey, all eyes are on Malam Toungo and his team to deliver transformational change, foster inclusiveness, and champion the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities across the state.
