Renowned security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, has sparked widespread outrage and sorrow after reporting a harrowing incident via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle — a father allegedly murdering his own daughter in Kano State.
The tragic event unfolded in the early hours of Monday at Dawakin Dakata Quarters, when 60-year-old Adamu Mohammed allegedly struck his 18-year-old daughter, Zainab Adamu, during a heated domestic dispute.
According to credible sources, the horrifying altercation occurred around 5:00 a.m., when the father, in a fit of rage, used a hard object to attack the young girl, rendering her unconscious. For nearly two hours, the incident went unnoticed until a concerned neighbour raised an alarm, prompting a swift response from members of the community.
Police officers who arrived at the scene quickly evacuated the unconscious Zainab to Sir Sunusi Specialist Hospital, where doctors, after frantic efforts, confirmed her dead on arrival.
Her remains were later released to her family and laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
The Kano State Police Command has since arrested the suspect, who is currently in custody as investigations continue to unravel the motive behind the horrific act. While no official statement has yet detailed the exact cause of the altercation, community members are calling for justice and urgent intervention in rising domestic violence cases.
A resident of the area described the incident as “an unthinkable betrayal of parental duty,” urging religious, traditional, and government institutions to intensify advocacy against domestic abuse.
“This is more than a family tragedy. It is a societal failure,” the resident added.
As the investigation progresses, this shocking incident serves as a grim reminder of the silent epidemic of domestic violence and the pressing need for public enlightenment, support systems, and enforcement of laws to protect vulnerable individuals within the home.
