Controversial Gun-Video Saga: Police Grant Bail To Pastor Paul Adefarasin After Recovering Stun Gun, Investigation Ongoing

Sahara Reporters has taken to it’s official X handle and announced that, The Nigeria Police Force has granted bail to the prominent Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, after he voluntarily submitted himself for interrogation over a viral video that triggered nationwide buzz.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed on Tuesday that Adefarasin honoured an invitation and turned himself in at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, following social media uproar over a video clip that appeared to show him wielding a gun-like object while engaging with another road user.

In a public statement released via the Command’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the controversial item in question was recovered and found to be a stun gun — not a lethal firearm as earlier speculated.

“Pastor Paul Adefarasin, who turned himself in today at the Lagos State Police Command over a viral video where he was seen holding a gun-like object against another road user, was interrogated and he volunteered a cautionary statement to police investigators,” Hundeyin stated.

He further clarified, “The object recovered from him is a stun gun — a non-lethal, prohibited anti-riot device under Nigerian law. While it is not a firearm, its possession and use are still subject to regulation.”

Adefarasin was subsequently granted administrative bail as investigations continue into the disturbing incident that has sparked public debate about responsible conduct and the rule of law — especially among public figures.

‘No One Is Above the Law’ — Police Declare

Earlier on Tuesday, the Lagos State Command reiterated its commitment to a fair and thorough investigation, emphasizing that “no one is above the law.”

“Pastor Paul Adefarasin has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, and is currently being interrogated by detectives who commenced investigation into the case following the viral video,” CSP Hundeyin said in a follow-up statement. “The outcome of the investigation will be made public.”

The video that ignited the storm surfaced online over the weekend and quickly went viral. It shows Adefarasin, in an unregistered vehicle, holding what many initially believed to be a gun while confronting a passerby who appeared to be filming the encounter.

Reacting to the viral footage, Pastor Adefarasin took to his social media platforms to offer clarification. In a brief statement, he described the incident as a “misunderstanding” and insisted the item in his hand was never a firearm.

“You might be aware of a video circulating on social media showing me in what some have misunderstood as brandishing a firearm,” Adefarasin wrote. “I want to assure you — that was certainly not a firearm, and at no point did I point such at anyone.”

Despite the pastor’s explanation, the footage has left many Nigerians puzzled and concerned, with some calling for more accountability and transparency, especially in light of the object’s classification as a restricted device under Nigerian law.

As the police probe deepens, public attention remains firmly fixed on the case, awaiting the final outcome of what has become one of the most talked-about incidents involving a high-profile religious leader in recent times.
