Tinubu’s Mockery Backfires: Labour Party Slams President Amidst APC’s North East Crisis

The Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, PhD, has taken a bold stand on X (formerly Twitter), firing back at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what she described as an undemocratic and shameful celebration of opposition disarray. In a strongly worded statement, Usman condemned the President’s recent remarks in which he gloated over perceived cracks in opposition ranks—a move she said undermines the very foundations of democracy.

> “A president who celebrates the weakening of opposition is, by extension, celebrating the weakening of democracy itself,” Usman stated, lamenting what she called a disturbing lack of statesmanship and disregard for democratic norms.

In a twist of political irony, just days after Tinubu’s mockery, his own party—the All Progressives Congress (APC)—has plunged into open crisis in the North East. According to Usman, the APC’s internal implosion is the result of an ill-advised attempt to enforce a “one-man agenda,” even at the cost of humiliating the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, in his own geopolitical stronghold.

> “The people of the North East have rejected the charade, and the fallout is glaring: smuggled party officials, a fractured house, and a nation watching in disbelief,” Usman declared.

She described the ongoing chaos within the ruling party not as poetic justice but as political karma—the inevitable backlash of political arrogance and internal sabotage. The attempt to sideline Vice President Shettima, Usman argued, signals not only a disregard for political decency but also a dangerous erosion of loyalty, dignity, and truth within the APC’s power structure.

> “What President Tinubu wished for others has turned to plague his own political household,” she said.

Senator Usman used the moment to reaffirm the Labour Party’s commitment to true democratic values, emphasizing that the strength of a democracy lies not in silencing the opposition, but in encouraging robust and honourable contestation.

> “We in the Labour Party will not gloat—but we will stand firm. This moment should serve as a mirror to the President, not a stage for gloating. Nigeria deserves more than the politics of sabotage and suppression.”

Calling on Nigerians to rise above the political noise and propaganda, Usman urged citizens to demand leadership built on humility, integrity, and the national interest. She warned that democracy dies where dissent is ridiculed and institutions are weaponized against opposing voices.

> “We remain steadfast in our mission—to build a nation where opposition is not persecuted but protected, because it is the heartbeat of any healthy democracy.”

As the ruling party battles internal rebellion and public skepticism, the Labour Party’s message is clear: Nigeria deserves leaders who lift the nation, not ones who laugh at its struggles.
