Terror at Midnight: Bandits Strike Niger State Community, Kill Vigilante, Abduct Five — Victims Rescued Unhurt

Renowned security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, has reported a harrowing late-night attack on the Dankashimo Rafin-Karma community in Nagwamatse District of Kontagora, Niger State.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Makama revealed that heavily armed bandits stormed the quiet village at approximately 11:30 p.m. on June 12, unleashing terror and chaos. According to reports gathered by Makama, the gunmen opened fire without provocation, tragically killing a local vigilante, identified as Aliyu, who had bravely stood in defense of his community.

The assailants then abducted five residents in a swift and brutal operation. Those kidnapped include Faiza Aliyu, Ado Dikko, Maryam Gambo, Bara’atu Naziru, and Murja Lawal. The brazen attack was confirmed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Kontagora, who promptly launched a collaborative response alongside local security forces and community vigilantes.

In a dramatic twist of events, the intense pressure mounted by the security response team forced the abductors to abandon their captives. All five victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families, bringing a rare moment of relief in a region that has grown all too familiar with insecurity.

This latest incident once again highlights the dire security challenges facing communities in Niger State and across the broader northwest region, as banditry continues to threaten lives, livelihoods, and peace.
