In a move that underscores growing responsiveness to public sentiment, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has officially extended the deadline for the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit requirement to August 12, 2025.
The announcement, made in a statement released on Saturday, June 14, by the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that the extension was approved by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, after extensive feedback from concerned Nigerians.
> “The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved an extension of the grace period for the enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit requirement to the 12th of August, 2025,” the statement read.
The decision follows a wave of concerns from the public over the reactivation of the digital application process for obtaining the permit. Citizens voiced frustrations over technical hiccups, accessibility barriers, and fears of unfair penalization amidst an imperfect system.
> “In line with our commitment to delivering transparent, inclusive, and citizen-focused policing, the Force wishes to affirm that it has not ignored the voices of Nigerians. Rather, these voices have been instrumental in guiding ongoing reviews of the process to ensure it remains user-friendly, secure, and accessible to all,” the statement affirmed.
The police emphasized that the extension would afford time to fine-tune and enhance both digital and physical permit application systems—ensuring no law-abiding citizen is unjustly affected by administrative bottlenecks or technological challenges.
> “The extension of enforcement is also intended to give room for additional enhancements and refinements to the application process, ensuring that no member of the public is unduly disadvantaged,” it added.
To this end, the NPF assured that efforts are already underway to simplify application procedures, including the rollout of improved verification mechanisms, reduced processing times, and streamlined enforcement protocols aimed at eliminating undue inconvenience.
This development is part of a broader reform strategy initiated earlier in February 2024. Then, the NPF disclosed it was preparing to lift the long-standing ban on tinted glass permits, but under stricter regulatory controls to curb abuse and enforce compliance with clear usage guidelines.
As part of the reform agenda, the Force also revealed plans to train ICT analysts and enforcement officers across the country—a move designed to ensure seamless implementation and robust oversight of the permit system.
The extension is widely seen as a win for civic engagement and participatory governance, highlighting the Police Force’s evolving posture towards a more people-driven service model.
With the new deadline now in place, citizens are urged to take advantage of the extended window to comply with the updated regulations—once the reengineered platform is rolled out.
