Lagos, Nigeria – Leading Nigerian airline, Air Peace, has issued a scathing condemnation of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State and serving senator representing Edo North, for what it described as unruly, aggressive, and highly disruptive conduct at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 (Zulu Hall) on the morning of Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
In a strongly worded statement released by the airline’s management, Air Peace recounted a dramatic sequence of events that unfolded after the senator missed his scheduled flight, P47120, from Lagos to Abuja, which was due to depart at 6:30 a.m.
> “Air Peace strongly condemns the unruly conduct of a prominent Nigerian politician who disrupted airport operations on the morning of Wednesday, June 11, 2025,” the statement began. “This individual arrived at the terminal at approximately 06:10 a.m. for Flight P47120. In line with our standard operating procedures, the boarding gate had closed, and the flight departed on schedule.”
According to the airline, rather than accepting responsibility for his tardiness, Senator Oshiomhole descended into chaos, unleashing verbal and physical aggression on airline staff and disrupting airport operations.
> “The individual physically assaulted our personnel and forcefully barricaded the terminal entrance, denying access to other passengers. He even went as far as sealing the terminal’s entry gate and manning it himself, effectively holding up operations and causing widespread panic and delays,” the statement continued.
Eyewitnesses corroborated the airline’s account, describing the scene as tense and chaotic. According to multiple sources at the airport, Senator Oshiomhole stubbornly blocked the terminal’s entrance despite entreaties from the terminal manager and airport staff. The obstruction reportedly stranded dozens of travelers, some of whom missed their own scheduled flights due to the disruption.
> “He caused a complete gridlock. Staff members were practically begging him to move, but he remained defiant,” an eyewitness told SaharaReporters.
Eventually, the matter escalated to the attention of senior airport authorities. A crisis management meeting was hastily convened to de-escalate the situation, with the regional manager stepping in to placate the senator and restore normalcy to airport operations.
Despite the confrontation, Air Peace refused to bend its policies, insisting that Senator Oshiomhole had simply missed his flight due to his own lateness. The airline emphasized that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy for violence, aggression, and VIP entitlement that disrupts safe and timely travel for the general public.
> “We are deeply disheartened that such a high-profile public figure chose to behave in a manner so unbecoming of his status. No one is above the rules,” the airline stressed. “Air Peace stands firmly by our principles of discipline, integrity, and respect for due process. Aviation operations adhere to strict timelines for safety and efficiency, and we will not compromise these values for anyone—regardless of position or influence.”
To minimize the impact of the incident on other passengers, Air Peace activated emergency operational protocols and rerouted affected travelers through an alternate terminal.
> “Our priority has always been to safeguard the travel experience of our passengers. We acted swiftly to ensure that others were not further inconvenienced by this unfortunate outburst,” the airline added.
The incident has sparked public outrage, with many Nigerians calling for accountability and demanding that elected officials lead by example instead of weaponizing their privilege.
Senator Oshiomhole, as of press time, has not issued a public statement addressing the allegations of assault or obstruction.
This latest controversy adds to the growing conversation about VIP culture and the abuse of public spaces by political elites in Nigeria.
