The quiet community of Hammadu Kafi in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State was jolted by horror on Sunday morning following the gruesome killing of a 45-year-old man, Ahmed Aliyu, in a vicious knife attack that has left residents reeling with fear and outrage.
The Gombe State Police Command, through its spokesperson, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the tragic incident in an official statement released late Sunday night. According to the statement, the attack occurred around 8:00 a.m., but was only reported at about 11:00 p.m. by the deceased’s relative, Bashir Umar.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Aliyu was brutally stabbed on the left side of his chest and back with a sharp object, suspected to be a knife. The assailants, whose identities remain unknown, fled the scene before help could arrive. Aliyu was rushed to the Gombe Specialist Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Describing the attack as “senseless, unwarranted, and deeply disturbing,” ASP Abdullahi revealed that the Command has already swung into action, deploying intelligence and tactical teams to track down the killers.
> “We strongly condemn this heinous crime. An intelligence-based investigation has commenced immediately, and every effort is being made to identify, trace, and apprehend the perpetrators so they can face the full wrath of the law,” the statement read.
The Police Command also appealed to members of the public to remain calm but vigilant, and to assist the investigation by providing credible information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.
> “We call on residents to support the police with timely and useful information that can unravel the mystery behind this heartless act. Community cooperation is vital in bringing the culprits to justice,” the statement urged.
The Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring the security of lives and property across the state, assuring that no stone will be left unturned in the pursuit of justice for Ahmed Aliyu.
