Thunder Strike in Katsina: Nigerian Army Neutralises 21 Terrorists, Recovers Deadly Arsenal in Daring Operation

In a major victory against terrorism, the Nigerian Army has announced the killing of 21 terrorists in a fierce gun battle during a daring raid in Ruwan Godiya, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State. The operation, carried out by troops of the Joint Task Force North West Operation Fasin Yaki, marks a significant blow to terrorist elements destabilising the region.

The military, in a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, disclosed that troops stormed a well-known terrorist stronghold, engaging the insurgents in a thunderous firefight that left the criminals overwhelmed and in disarray. The battle reportedly escalated into a desperate chase, during which several terrorists drowned in a nearby river while attempting to escape.

> “The troops subdued the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to abandon their base and flee. During the ensuing pursuit, 21 terrorists were neutralised, with some succumbing to drowning in a nearby river,” the statement read.

The high-stakes operation led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including assault rifles, explosives, loaded magazines, communication gadgets, mobile phones, and a number of motorcycles suspected to be used for rapid attacks and escapes.

This offensive is part of an intensified military campaign targeting terror cells in Nigeria’s troubled northwest zone, where criminal gangs have long plagued communities with killings, kidnappings, and raids.

In a related development, troops of Operation Hadin Kai launched another decisive strike against terrorists in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State in the early hours of Friday. The Nigerian Army reported that troops spotted a group of ISWAP/Boko Haram fighters around 1:00 a.m. and quickly engaged them with sustained indirect fire.

“The main thrust of the attack targeted the Brigade, prompting the swift deployment of air support to assist ground forces,” the military said.

The encounter lasted nearly two hours, with the insurgents eventually retreating under heavy fire. At least 16 terrorists were confirmed dead, and a pursuit operation is ongoing to hunt down those who fled.

Although an ammunition depot was struck during the exchange, troops acted swiftly to bring the situation under control, preventing further damage or escalation.

These back-to-back military successes underscore the Nigerian Army’s renewed determination to reclaim ungoverned spaces and dismantle the infrastructure of terror across the country.
