A shocking security breach has rocked the Ogun State Police Command as a serving officer, Police Constable Idris Oloyede—infamously known by the alias “Abuja”—escaped from police custody just hours after his arrest for alleged involvement in cybercrime, conspiracy, robbery, and theft.
According to an internal police signal obtained by SaharaReporters, Constable Oloyede, who is attached to the Odeda Divisional Police Headquarters, was arrested on May 21, 2025, at approximately 6:10 PM following damning revelations tying him to a network of cybercriminals. However, by 11:30 PM the same day, he had mysteriously slipped through the fingers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit during an enquiry operation in Odeda Township.
The escape has not only embarrassed the Ogun State Police Command but also raised alarming questions about internal security procedures and complicity within the force.
“He has been declared wanted by the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command. If sighted, he should be arrested and handed over to the Station Officer at Odeda for immediate action,” the official police signal read.
Before his daring escape, Constable Oloyede—bearing Force Number 537972 and previously assigned to Patrol Teak Mine—had been apprehended following a confession from a suspect in custody. The suspect alleged that Oloyede had actively collaborated with cyber fraud syndicates by providing them with two Facebook accounts and an MTN SIM card used to defraud unsuspecting victims online.
A search of Oloyede’s private residence—conveniently located behind the Police Barracks in Odeda—uncovered incriminating evidence, including multiple SIM cards and several iPhones suspected to have been used in the cyber operations. The items were seized for forensic examination.
After preliminary interrogation, Oloyede was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation. But in a twist that could rival a crime thriller, the disgraced officer managed to elude custody and vanish into the night—fueling speculations of insider assistance.
This incident underscores a disturbing and growing trend of law enforcement officers being implicated in the very crimes they are sworn to prevent. Oloyede’s escape serves as a wake-up call to the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian public, raising urgent demands for accountability, internal reform, and a ruthless crackdown on rogue elements within the security agencies.
As of press time, Constable Idris Oloyede remains at large. The Ogun State Police Command is appealing to members of the public with any useful information regarding his whereabouts to come forward. His continued evasion of justice remains a blot on the integrity of Nigeria’s law enforcement.
